Hi -

I recently purchased a TI-89 and my question is:

For the algebra equation

8( 4x+8 )=11-( x+2 )

Where I solve for X =

The answer is -5/3 but when answer the calculator gives me is -1.666667 which is also correct. How can I get the answer to display as a fraction instead of a decimal?

Hi inet,

Welcome to Ti-89 Forums.

Press [MODE]+[F2]. Near the bottom, you see "Exact/Approx". If you set this to "EXACT", the calculator will always display fractions instead of decimals. If you set this to "AUTO", the calculator will display exact answers only if there are no decimal values in the expression.

You can also use the "Exact(" function:

Code:

Exact(Solve(8(4x+8)=11-(x+2),x))

Hope this helps!
