Being enrolled in two science courses, I find myself having to deal with quadratics (in the form of ax^2 + bx + c = 0) fairly often. There are almost always 2 solutions, and as is overwhelmingly the case, one of those solutions is extraneous. I need to be able to isolate the correct solution and be able to work with it in later steps; however, to retrieve that solution, I find myself having to repeatedly hit the arrow keys and the delete button like a maniac (supposing that the solution has many digits). Surely there has to be a better way!

Here's an example to clarify what I mean.

When one enters something like the following:
solve(2x^2+3x-7=0,x)

The calculator gives the result back in this form:
x=-2.76556443707 or x=1.26556443707

Let's say that the first answer is extraneous, and I only need to use the second answer in following step. Here is what I currently do to get the second answer by itself:

- I scroll upward to highlight the answers and hit enter to paste them into the prompt.
- I hit 2nd+left to get to the beginning of the line.
- I hit the right arrow key 24 times (bleh...) in order to get the cursor past the extraneous solution, past the "or", and past the second "x=". The cursor is now between the second equals sign and just before the numerical form of the second solution.
- Now I hit the backspace key 24 times to get rid of the extraneous solution.
- Now that I finally have the answer by itself, I like to hit enter so that I can paste this answer later as many times as necessary simply by scrolling upward, highlighting it, and hitting enter.

Total number of keystrokes to isolate the correct solution: 53. And this does not even count entering in the equation in the solve() statement.

If there is just one solution, and the calculator gives it to me in the form of x=#####, all I have to do to use this solution in later calculations is to use x in place of the number, and then simply append | (the "with" operator), and scroll up to paste the x=##### at the end (example: the calculator gives me the solution as x=2. I need to add 3 to this. I type in "x+3|", then highlight the solution "x=2" and hit enter; the prompt now looks like this: x+3|x=2). But when there are two solutions, and that filthy "or" is introduced into the solution, it is much more difficult to deal with.

Is there a quicker way to do this?

hmmm, i know what you can do instead of going over 24 times and then hitting backspace 24 times is to hold down the shift(uparrow) button while going over 24 times and that will highlight it, then you can hit backspace to clear it in half the time
