| When I turn my 89 off it immediately turns back on. This happens both when you press the second-on button and when you let it turn itself off after inactivity. I've pulled it apart and cleaned the key pad and tested the batteries, everythink looks ok. I haven't used it much in the past few years and I wasn't doing anything unusual when this started. Right now I pulled the batteries and the back up battery so they don't drain. It would be nice to not have to do this to get it to turn off... Any ideas? |

Hi powerpc7640,
Welcome to TI-89 Forums.
I've never encountered this problem you are discussing. The only thing I can suggest is to try an alternate way of turning the calculator off: [DIAMOND]+[ON]. This turns the calculator off but leaves it right at the same place where you turned it off. This may interact with the OS differently and compensate your issue. Otherwise I can't think of anything besides cleaning the buttons like you did if its a physio-hardware type issue rather than software. I suppose you could try upgrading the OS in case its a software issue if you don't already have the most recent version...? Otherwise I'm sorry, I can't help you out.
Hope this helps in some way!

Hey, just registered to drop you a line...
I have a Ti-89 Titanium... does the same thing. I talked with a guy thats been a eBay Titanium Powerseller for 5 years and he said he has only seen about 10 calculators do that in all 5 years of his sales.
Its just a fluke-- they think its a bad solder joint. Get a new one if possible.
And yes, it WOULD NOT TURN OFF REGARDLESS OF HOW YOU TRY TURN IT OFF. it simply starts again. My calculus professor said he had never seen it before. |

Couldn't it be a broken link port?
A bad connection could turn the calc all the time on. |

Well, than that is probably the problem.
You could open it and try to see if there is a bad connection. |

| I have TI-89 Titanium and I had the same problem. I think there was an oxide on I/O port. So I pushed in and out a few times I/O jack and twirl with him. This solve the problem for now ... |

I was wondering if there was ever any resolution to this problem. Tried the i/o jack fix, but it didn't do a thing.
Thanks |
