I have had most of my things deleted in the var-link section and now only have the Main folder not contacts or anything else. Is there a way i can get them back? Also there isnt all the apps i had on it aswell, is this related to the var-link?

Hi teh_nub,

Welcome to TI-89 Forums!

If the variables don't appear in VAR-LINK and you can't access them anywhere else, then they are gone forever. I don't think there are any companies investing in solid-state data retrieval for the TI calculator OS's because their data is not important enough.

How did they get deleted? If they got deleted by a calculator reset, I can only say that you will have to replace them all, but make sure you keep them archived (you can archive from the VAR-LINK command menu) next time. Archiving programs and variables places them in the FLASH ROM of the calculator which is protected from resets, sort of like a PC; if you restart your PC, you lose everything you're working on, but your hard drive contents are still there. You need to keep things archived (in ROM, like a hard drive), or else when the calculator gets reset, they are removed as well. Note that when you shut off the calculator, it only powers down the LCD, and the calculator is still running; that's why RAM is not reset every time your calculator goes off.

Hope this helps.
