What's the major difference between the 89 and the 89 titanium? I currently use the 89 and it serves me well. With calculus coming up this summer, I'm debating on a titanium for the class. My gut feeling is that my trusty 89 will serve me quite well without the additional expenditure.

I also found a ti-82 at a garage sale yesterday for $1.00. Anyone familiar with this calculator?

Thanks,

Steve Cool

Hi steve,

Probably the most significant difference is the speed and memory. The TI-89 Titanium has a faster processor (~8 MHZ) and about 2MB of FLASH ROM; I haven't even come close to exhausting the limit of FLASH ROM on my TI-89 Titanium, and I have lots of games and apps.

Unless you want a hardcore gaming calculator and use lots of fancy apps, the TI-89 should suit you well. Had I a TI-89 already, I would not have upgraded to a Titanium. I simply got the Titanium to start with because it was available--and I got it for free for my birthday Wink .

IMHO, the other differences--various new functions, new inequality style, improved AMS--are insignificant especially if you don't have the money to buy another calculator.

You probably would do fine without the 89T. As far as I know, the 92 has the same OS and the 89 but the hardware was weaker at the time it was made so they needed more to make it as good as the the 89. If I were you, I wouldn't use the 92 on the test without quite a bit of practice just to make sure you know the differences between it and the 89.
